The focus of this symposium is to present latest achievements and challenges in the fabrication and characterization of materials, devices and systems with potential applications primarily to the fields of magnetic data storage. Several promising technology options are currently explored to increase the areal density beyond the superparamagnetic limit such as bit patterned magnetic recording (BPMR), heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), and microwave assisted magnetic recording (MAMR).The symposium is designed to attract specialists from both industry and academia engaged in the research on:-          Magnetic recording material for various recording concepts such as granular media and exchange coupled composite media

-          Nanoscale fabrication methods including advances in e-beam lithography, nanoimprint lithography, self-assembly fabrication, and pattern transfer

-          Micromagnetic simulations on recording performance

-          Device and system design; manufacturability
